T-shirts story

Wednesday 1st of May 2013

Hello everyone !

I don’t know which weather you have but here in Toulouse it is pretty awful these days… Anyway, this greyish and rainy weather just brought me more than ever in front of my computer, and I thought that it could be worth it for you to get to know a bit more about the fabrication of my T-shirts.

It took me quite some time to find the right way to produce ethically made T-shirts, as I wanted to aim at high quality standards of production by having a sustainable approach from the field to the final customer.  By “ethically” I mean products which should be as clean as possible regarding the impact of their production towards the environment,  but also the way they would be produced, by whom and which conditions for the farmers and employees working in the factories.

The best solution I found for the moment is to work with a company making really good quality organic fabric and T-shirts in India. All my t-shirts are made of 100% jersey cotton. Most of them are 100% Organic Products in accordance with the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), and certified by the Control Union and Soil Association. The Carbon Footprint during their production is reduced of 90% thanks to solar and wind energies. The manufacturing supply chains are also audited by a non-profit NGO called the Fair Wear Foundation which verifies that ethical trade and justice for workers are applied.

When I need a bunch of T-shirts, I order them to my French wholesaler who ship them to a small French factory located in the north of France where my label and the size are sewn. I am proud to have French people working within my supply chain, and I plan to sell T-shirts made in France as soon as possible as well! However, it is much more expensive as you can imagine, and I will have to see if it becomes doable or not for me in the future.

After that, my T-shirts are shipped to my specialist in charge of printing all graphics. It is a very nice team, located in Paris, which makes these awesome results by using multiple techniques such as digital or silkscreen printing according to every project and result we aim at.

Finally, the T-shirts are shipped to me in Toulouse, where I check again their quality. I ship them myself to you with lots of love !! yeah !

So far, that’s how it goes… ;-)
